Applying for EI? Read this important update on the process.

Given the confusion over the application process, and members selecting the option “natural disaster” and “group termination” please tell your members that when applying for EI they are not to select the “natural disaster” nor “group termination” option as they’ll be asked for a 16 digit code, which is not being provided. See the email below from Service Canada about why that reference code will not be issued.  

Members will only need to use A00 (A zero zero).  A few members have done it this way and have not had issues applying.

Letter of concern to Members of Parliament

With the concern of loss of employment in all sectors of our world, including the airlines, the leaders of several organizations in Canada, including the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers have submitted a letter of concern to the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Transport.  The full length of the letter can be found here:

Employment Insurance Information Package

Coping with the Covid-19 crisis

In the coming weeks, many members of the IAM in Canada will be facing the prospect of temporary loss of employment as airlines across the globe seek to reduce or minimize their cost structure.  Air Canada is no different.

Covid-19 virus and pending Air Canada off-duty status update
